What's Possible?

Perhaps lean thinking principles and the Toyota Production System are new to your organization and you want more clarity about their value to your business.

Or perhaps your company has already embarked on its lean journey, has achieved some significant results, and you’re now asking: How lean are we? How do we know how much progress we’ve made? Where should we focus next?

Our Lean Enterprise Assessment and Diagnostic (LEAD) is a rapid, systematic approach to assessing your current state and discovering what’s possible during your lean journey.

LEAD is offered for a nominal fee with the intention of providing your business with an easily affordable offering while giving our teams the opportunity to meet each other. Whether you’ve just started or are going to the next level with your lean initiative, LEAD is designed to help your team set a powerful course of direction and redefine what breakthrough results are possible. If your team is addressing these questions then LEAD can help you move forward quickly.

  • What are your company’s value disciplines, and how do they affect your lean initiative?
  • How do you align your lean activities with business objectives?
  • What business results are possible?
  • What’s your role and the role of your senior leadership team?
  • How do you organize your leadership team and your project managers (lean champions)?
  • What resources are needed?
  • What is an aggressive yet reasonable timeline?
  • What is the business case and financial justification?
  • What is the best lean implementation strategy for your organization?
  • How can you start (or continue) for the greatest impact?
  • Should you begin across your entire enterprise, or target specific value streams in phases?

LEAD consists of the following activities:

  1. Web-based Diagnostic. Selected members of your management team and individual contributors are invited to complete and return a comprehensive web-based diagnostic developed and refined over the years to provide a reliable indicator of your organization’s current state. There are 31 lean enterprise practices in the diagnostic, divided amongst six major competencies:
    1. Leadership Commitment
    2. Management Systems
    3. Organizational Development
    4. Customer Focused Value Streams
    5. Employee Engagement
    6. Operational Excellence

Your organization is scored for each practice on a scale of 1 to 5.This information is compiled and analyzed to understand the best course of action for your lean transformation.

  2. Information Session. This is an initial conversation (usually a conference call) with key members of your team prior to our on-site visit. Its purpose is to review your objectives, the results of the current state diagnostic, and the logistics for the Qualification Interview.
  3. Qualification Interview. This is a 1 to 3 day on-site visit by our team. We'll meet with your site leadership and key members of your team to explore your objectives, organizational structure, major value streams, and challenges. At the end of this meeting, we’ll present a joint vision of what’s possible during your Lean Enterprise Transformation.
  4. Value Assessment. A few days after the Qualification Interview, we’ll present a document outlining the joint vision for your Lean Enterprise Transformation, tangible financial and operational results that we commit to help your team achieve, a high-level timeline of events, and project ROI analysis.
